I also found a rather gaping hole to fix. I’m working on the starboard side of the wing first and there’s a rather large gap between the aileron and flap. Also, that gap isn’t constant – it is gradually larger as you move towards the trailing edge.

As you can see from the ruler, it’s no trivial gap. I’m going to have to cut a bit of hardwood will have to be cut to lengthen the aileron…

Aileron gap to fix.

Posted in Yellow P-47 build, wings with tags aileron, flaps, servo, wing on June 13, 2009 by rcscalebuilderI’ve been working a bit more on the wings, specifically fitting all the servos, hardware, etc.

This photo shows the wing pylon, but it’s only sitting there – not mounted.
I’m taking my time on this part because everything has to work well as it will be non-removable or accessible once the covering goes on. Things like servo extensions, wiring, air hoses for the retracts, etc. will all be hidden from view and most of it will run underneath the floor of the gear well.
Ailerons and flaps
Posted in Yellow P-47 build, wing with tags aileron, flap, wing on December 10, 2008 by rcscalebuilderI have the wing as finished as I can, before fiberglassing it. A close look will see all the 3/8″ square blocks I inset into the wings to hold the servo covers on.
With almost all the wing completed, I worked a bit on the moveable surfaces today. Lots of drilling and hinging work. Looks pretty good.
I did find that I will have to lengthen the ailerons just slightly (about 1/8″ to make up for the gap you see here. A piece of hardwood should do the job.
