Finished the static prop today

Well, it’s finally finished. Here’s the completed static prop. I think it came out well. There’s a few rough spots in the paint, but at 15 feet, who cares!

Here’s a close-up of the hub. I found a chrome paint that did a fairly good job.

Back on track.

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve made any progress, but with Halloween and other projects out of the way, I drug myself down-stairs to start up again.

I decided to work my way back in slowly, so I’m going to work on the static prop. All the blades are sanded and ready for paint.

The hub is also just about ready. I found that the Aerotech hub needed some nuts to match the full-size, so I found that by drilling out the hub, I could thread in 2-56×3/4 hex bolts, then thread on the matching nuts. It looks perfect and should match when painted.

Static Prop arrived today.

I went ahead and ordered the Static Prop from Aerotech and it arrived today. Looks great and it’s going to save a TON of time compared to what I had in front of me with the Yellow Aircraft static prop. Just look at that detail on the hub!

Prop Hub.

Although I will use this as a base, this prop hub they provide is far from scale. I’m going to consider this a starting point to mount the props to. Compare this to the full-scale hub.

Lots of work to do here.
